The adidas TERREX MaXi-Race brings together around fifteen passionate runners throughout the year and more than 600 volunteers on the home stretch.
During the first editions, the race was organized by a handful of runners grouped within the DSN74 association. Over the years, the ranks have grown and there are now around fifteen local sporting and non-sporting associations involved in the event.
Over the years, the adidas TERREX MaXi-Race has evolved to allow all runners, whatever their profile and level of performance, to achieve their goals in a majestic setting. Each edition is an opportunity to integrate new themes, allowing us to stay as close as possible to our values and our runners.
An inclusive event
During our 2023 and 2024 edition, we wanted to strengthen the opening of our event to able-bodied and disabled people, in this context:
- In collaboration with Salomon, we welcomed several amputee trail runners who took up the challenge on our 3 formats tour, half-turn and quarter-turn of the Lake.
- The members of the Breton association “Nos Limites” accompanied their Joëlette pilot, Noah, 14 years old, physically disabled for a half-tour of the Lake on the adapted and specific route designed by our organization.
The 27°BCA and the adidas TERREX MaXi-Race: strong values in common:
In 2022, the adidas TERREX MaXi-Race supported the Tiger Raid Tour du Mont Blanc project, providing support to the war wounded of the 27th BCA, as part of their reconstruction through sport and the spirit of mutual aid. This exchange continued in 2023 with their participation in the opening ceremony of the U18 mountain running world cup then in the Short-Race.
In 2022, the R-Race became the Relais SEPas Impossible to support a local association: the SEPas Impossible association. Born in 2014 to communicate about Multiple Sclerosis (MS), their goal is to break the isolation of patients and convince public authorities to build a medical establishment for dignified and appropriate care. The Trail community sharing many common values (solidarity, conviviality, mutual aid, etc.), it seemed logical to us to join forces with this local association managed voluntarily and the R-Race seemed to us to be the ideal race for this.
An event who supports local associations

Ecology
Since the 1st edition of the MaXi-Race, we have worked to limit the impact of the event, we test, some ideas work, others do not, we evolve each year to be as close as possible to our values and the waiting for the runners.
Focus on 3 actions:
Drastic reduction in the number of plastic bottles
Since the creation of the race, we have installed water ramps at the aid stations in order to reduce this waste as much as possible for flat water. These constant and regular efforts have already allowed us to avoid the use of 240,000 bottles. In 2021, the community services also supported us in this process and provided us with a new water point at the finish line, and an additional tank on the course (used in the event of high heat). At the same time, we offer lemonade on tap at the arrival refreshments, always with the aim of limiting plastic bottles.
In-depth reflection on pathways and co-construction
We are also concerned about preserving the trails we use. In agreement with the various managers of the areas crossed (reserve, park, ONF, etc.) we may be required to carry out cutting work, repair paths or create footbridges to preserve wetlands.
When we map out the routes, we also pay attention to alternating the trails used from one year to the next but also between races.
Reusable marking for the route: an internal charter since 2011
Within MaXi-Race, we have had an internal marking charter since 2011 (updated every year) and we provide regular training to the staff.
We mainly use strips of fabric or markers which we install the day before the race and which we remove as soon as the last runner has passed so that we can reuse them in subsequent years.
We position as many volunteers as possible at intersections and if we are obliged to use road markings, we only use clay pigments.
We also ask the markers to do this marking on soft ground such as earth and not on trees or stones where the traces take longer to erase.
A label
The Auvergne Rhône Alpes region, wishing to raise awareness among organizers and practitioners of these issues, created a platform for eco-sporting events to which we joined in 2022. From the first year and without implementing additional actions, we obtained the GOLD label, the highest possible level, attesting to the quality and relevance of the actions we have been carrying out for more than 12 years.
