An eco-responsible event

Since the beginning of this wonderful adventure, we've been working to preserve our playground.

Since the first edition of the adidas TERREX MaXi-Race, we have been working to limit the impact of the event. We test ideas, some work, others don't, and we evolve every year to stay true to our values and meet the expectations of our runners. This page focuses on some of the actions we have implemented.

Drastic reduction in the number of plastic bottles

Right from the start of the Race, we have installed water ramps at refreshment points where drinking water is available, in order to reduce this waste for still water as much as possible. These constant and regular efforts have already enabled us to avoid the use of 240,000 bottles. In 2021, the local authorities have also supported us in this approach, providing us with a new water point on the finish line, and additional tanks on the course (used in the event of very hot weather). At the same time, we are offering lemonade in kegs at the finish refreshment area, again with the aim of limiting the use of plastic bottles.

Thorough reflection on career paths and co-construction

We are also concerned about preserving the trails we use. In agreement with the various managers of the areas we cross (reserve, park, ONF, Grand Annecy, etc.), we may have to cut down or repair trails or create footbridges to preserve wetlands.
When we lay out the routes, we also take care to alternate the trails used from one year to the next, as well as between races.

Reusable trail markers: an internal charter since 2011

At MaXi-Race, we've had an internal marking charter since 2011, and we provide regular training for our staff.

  • We mainly use fabric strips or jalonettes which we install the day before the Race and remove as soon as the last runner has passed, so that they can be reused in subsequent years.
  • We position as many volunteers as possible at intersections, and if we have to use road markings, we only use clay pigments, which fade quickly.
  • We also ask markers to make their markings on soft ground, such as earth, and not on trees or pebbles, where marks take longer to fade.

A label

The Auvergne Rhône Alpes region wanted to raise awareness of these issues among organizers and participants, so it created a platform for eco-event sports, which we joined in 2022. From the very first year, and without implementing any additional actions, we were awarded the GOLD label, the highest possible level, attesting to the quality and relevance of the actions we've been carrying out for over 14 years.

A reduction in carbon emissions between 2019 and 2029

Since 2019, the organization has decided, without any external pressure, to implement a 10-year plan to reduce the event's carbon emissions by 40%.
